The Dead Ships

Venue: Barboza

The Dead Ships A lot has happened for LA Weekly’s Best Band of 2016 – The Dead Ships – in the short time that they’ve been together. Just a couple short months after singer/guitarist Devlin McCluskey and drummer Chris Spindelilus started jamming, the soulful garage rock duo were playing sold out shows at The Echo in their native Los Angeles and at San Francisco’s Bottom Of The Hill. They quickly became the most talked-about live show in L.A., picking up airplay on radio giant KROQ where their song ‘Big Quiet’ spent five weeks in the number one slot on the station’s star-making Locals Only show and getting hand-picked by Goldenvoice to perform at Coachella. In July of 2016 they released their debut full-length album CITYCIDE. Produced by Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning, the now-trio with Alex Moore on bass put together a fiery collection of songs that showcase McCluskey’s engaging yowl and an unrelenting drive that refuses to let up on the gas pedal until the last notes of album closer ‘Tomorrow’s Crashes’ fade away. The band kicked off 2016 with a sold-out tour of the U.S. opening for Les Butcherettes and a stop at SXSW. This was followed by a string of dates with The Cult and multiple Summer festival slots.

Joe August Joe August blends a groovy 60s sound with catchy choruses, classic guitar riffs, celestial harmonies, and a modern lyrical twist to create a sound uniquely his own. From a young age Joe has always had a passion for music, which brought him from performing in the fabled House of Blues in his hometown of Los Angeles all the way up the west to Seattle where he now resides.

The son of a Beatles cover-musician, Alec Shaw fell in love with music from the first time he picked up a guitar at the ripe age of 9 years old. Ever since then he has expanded his knowledge and capabilities, venturing off to Berklee at the young age of 16. Upon returning to Seattle with new inspiration he set out to create a band while writing and recording his first Album, “Car Town.” The band quickly debuted to a packed Neumos mainstage on a bill featuring local heavyweights Fauna Shade and Acid Tongue. In 2017 Alec and his new band debuted their second full-length release “Sea Bed” which features some of his most prolific work to date. Alec Shaw
